Weird or Cool?
I was walking home from class a couple weeks ago when a girl rode past me on her bike. Being in a slightly observant frame of mind I realized that she looked strange, or weird. While wondering what it was about her that seemed so out of the ordinary I looked across campus and saw a guy dressed in skinny jeans riding a longboard. I obviously thought this guys outfit was weird, but with further thought I realized that while the girl's presence would be associated with weirdness the guys would be considered cool. This realization further perplexed me until I realized the all important truth behind the difference between what we consider weird and cool. Have you ever looked at a picture in your dad's yearbook and said, "man your hair was weird back then!"? Well guess what? It was! Unless lots of people had weird hair. Then it became cool. The difference between weird and cool if not already guessed is the difference between one person doing something weird, and multiple people doing something weird. Not convinced? That's alright weirdo. Just get your buddies to do whatever it is that you're doing and ya know what? It might just become cool. So the next time you're at the math lab and a guy walks in with high waters on...don't judge too quickly. It might come around. Why not? It was cool when our dads did it!
